David Oates is the head researcher here at People Tracing Experts – David is one of the UK’s top people tracers, his work has been featured on the radio as well as in national newspapers and magazines. He has recently finished his book about tracing family members. Here in his own words he tells us his motives for writing the book and what he hopes to achieve from its sale.
Well it took a lot of writing but I really pleased with how this book has turned out. I spent over a year working on it and included as much information as I could about tracing long lost family members.

It was hard to write as I wanted to give value for money. I have access to a lot of systems that aren’t available to the public so I had to look into alternative systems. I’m still a strong believer in getting a professional people tracing company involved in tracing the person but if people are dead set against that and want to do it themselves this book will show them how.
For anyone interested in the book, you learn how to collate the most necessary information to perform a successful search and what systems will give you the most accurate information. It also has top tips and a case studies section in which I analysis my successful cases that have made the national press, dictating my approach and how I got a positive outcome for our customers.
I also felt it was right to include a section regarding on-line safety and how it can be compromised by rubbish websites.
Finally there is a section of the most useful websites that are available in the UK for long lost family tracing, this covers electoral roll sites, social media and BDM records too. I’m obviously hoping for a good response to the book and am already planning a sequel. I hope it helps people trace their own long lost family.
